Your Long Term Visions And How To Achieve Them

According to google, long-term vision is the capability to travel in time, taking an imaginary "trip" to the future. To a layman, long-term vision can simply be defined as a plan you have for your future.

Some group of people that live for the moment believe that it is just a waste of time to have a vision for their lives. And i was a victim of that statement as a kid because i thought that the future gives you the stock it already has for you; whether you planned for it or not! "Who even has time to waste for the unknown?" Layman without a vision always asked that rhetorical question!

When i came to South Africa, I started learning how to change my life and my habits, I realized something: people avoid creating a vision for their lives because they keep on believing that the exercise is just useless.

I have realized something over these past years: the most interesting, accomplished people I have known, have a vision for their lives. They seem to know what exactly comes next in their lives, like they have seen the future already.

On the other hand, some people I did meet or know, who have that hopeless look in their eyes, as if they were just wasting time in life without joy, ambition or aspiration. Believe me those people don’t have a vision. Let me simply put it this way, many of them do not even have short-term visions not to mention the mighty long-term visions. This was painfully proven to be true recently when someone asked me, why making a long-term vision when it is impossible to achieve those things anyway? Well, having just a vision won't change your life but determined to work towards achieving it gives you all the motivation you need and that alone helps in making it achievable.

If your visions never scare you then you have to drop it and aim higher. They are achievable if you put few of thees tips below in action:

First, you need to understand what matters in life. You need to go deep within your heart and be sincere to yourself then understand the reason for your existence. What is the actual meaning of life? How should you live this your life really? Your answers to “what matters in life” does not have to be all round perfect but truthful, so it’s ok. The real point is to understand truly and then start from somewhere to work towards achieving it.

Secondly, picture what career you want to be in, at later stage in life. What kind of fun and self-centered goals would make the best year of your life? Apart from what you already know, what else do you want to learn every year? What are your financial goals for the year? And most importantly what are your plans on giving back to the society or needy yearly? Reflect on these all at least once a month before the year runs out and see what would be achieved.

Finally, write down on a paper what defines your ideal life. I know, it might seem like common or cheap, but this exercise can be really fun and rewarding at last. No matter what you think or how unbelievable you think it can be, just sit down for a minute all by yourself to refresh your life’s vision, the year is still young. Do it now and thank me later. While writing your visions down please make sure that it has exactly the description of your sincere ideal life, combined with a list of areas that matter most, and high-level goals for each area.

Remember, your long-term vision is what defines who you want to be in life, what you want to be remembered for and the set of life experiences and achievements you aim for. Your vision helps you to define the goals in life by giving you a framework to evaluate those goals.
