Trigger-Happy Policeman Killed a Lagos Lawyer on Christmas Day.
Bolanle Raheem |
On Sunday, the 25th of December, the day Christians all over the world celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ was also the same day Bolanle Raheem, who was also a Christian, was shot dead by Nigerian police whom supposed to protect the lives and properties of its citizen!
The news had it that Bolanle; the wife of Gbenga Raheem, was shot dead by yet to be identify police officer while she was trying to do a U-turn under Ajah Bridge in Lagos. She was driving with her family; her kids and sister, when the shot was fired at their car after the police tried to stop them and the bullet hit her, unfortunately she was pronounced death at the hospital.
She was an award-winning realtor, Real Estate Consultant, Business Coach and Real Estate Developer. She was the Chief Executive Officer of Croston Homes and also Co-Founder of City Building; a Real Estate and property Development Company.
Yes, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba condemned the killing and ordered for the faster investigations and prosecution of any officers involved but this was not the first time this kind of thing happened in Nigeria. Recently, on 6th of December 2022, a resident of Happy Land Estate in Ajah, Gafaru Buraimoh, was similarly shot dead by another trigger-happy police officer!
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, described it as "unfortunate and avoidable." He maintained via a tweet that the said policeman and his team members had been arrested and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department!
I think Nigerian Police should do better and let the public, especially the family knows all about the outcome of the investigations.
May her soul rest in peace.
